The Registro Nacional is taking steps to make it harder to fake deeds to steal real estate.
The registry in Curridabat is where all the nation's property records are kept. Costa Rica depends on private notaries, who are lawyers, to protect the property transfer process. However, several recent cases show that the system is vulnerable to crooked notaries (continued at A.M. Costa Rica).
